Nicholson comments on election posters

Conservative and Unionist MEP Jim Nicholson has called on the local political parties to come to a voluntary agreement to ban the use of election posters during elections in Northern Ireland.

Mr Nicholson was speaking after he visited Greenway recycling plant today outside Newry to see his posters from June's European election be recycled.

In a statement Mr Nicholson said,

"These posters are unsightly and are more a nuisance to the public than anything else. What I am calling on today is for the local political parties to come together voluntarily and agree a ban on the use of election posters during elections.

"I am more than happy to see my posters recycled and to do my small part for the environment. Of course in the next European Parliamentary term climate change and environmental protection will be one of the main issues MEPs will have to deal with."
