Nicholson not Surprised that UK is Excluded from Key Cap Talks in Paris

Conservative and Unionist MEP Jim Nicholson has said he is not surprised that the French Government have excluded the UK from key talks on the future of the CAP taking place in this Paris this week.

In a statement Mr Nicholson said,

"The UK Government tried their best during the Health Check to push for further reform of the CAP and given their criticisms of the CAP I am not surprised that the French Government excluded the UK along with Malta, the Netherlands, Sweden and Denmark.

"This is exactly the type of thing that happens when the Government doesn't fight Britain's corner in the EU. British ministers didn't even turn up to the key meetings ahead of the last CAP reform and they have been outflanked again ahead of a much more important reform this time around.

"The current UK Government's position on the CAP is not helpful for our farmers. The UK Government should be making the case for food security and energy security to be at the heart of the CAP but how can they do that when they're not even at the negotiating table."
