Nicholson visits O'Kane Poultry in Ballymena

Conservative and Unionist MEP Jim Nicholson visited O'Kane poultry this week in Ballymena where he met with Tony O'Neill, Managing Director and Billy O'Kane, company Chairman.

Speaking after the meeting Mr. Nicholson said,

"I was extremely pleased to have visited O'Kane poultry this week to meet with the management to hear the encouraging and ambitious plans they have to expand the company. O'Kane poultry make a vital contribution not just to the local economy in North Antrim but to the regional economy in Northern Ireland also. I also met with staff in the factory to see the fantastic job being done on the processing site.

"We also discussed ways in which DARD could better assist the local poultry industry in Northern Ireland and potential funding that may be available. DARD and Invest NI have a responsibility to do everything they can to ensure the poultry industry in Northern Ireland grows, not just survive.

"The importance of the Rose Energy project was also discussed and how a decision must be reached sooner rather than later on the project by the Minister."
